Overview

Prospects has been established since 1994 and is focused on providing a ‘continuity of care’ for children and young people.  We have a number of small children’s homes (1-5 occupancy) located in Wrexham and the surrounding rural area in North East Wales.

We are focussed on providing high standards of primary care and therapeutic / psychologically informed environments to meet individual placement needs.

Placement Options

We offer a range of placement options that can be tailored to achieve the best outcomes and meet individual placement needs.  Working with young people and their local authorities we are able to provide the most appropriate placements at the right time.

We have a rural emergency/short term crisis and assessment home where young people aged 11-16 can be looked after for a period up to 6 months, and where the focus is often about stabilising young people who have experienced periods of chaos, reintroducing them to education at our registered special school, and providing a clear assessment of their on-going placement needs.

Where a longer term residential placement is required we have a range of placement options with single occupancy solo placements and small shared homes in the community.

  • Emergency Placements
  • Crisis and Assessment Short-term Placements
  • Single Occupancy, Dual Occupancy or Small Group Shared
  • Medium to Long-term Care

We offer an integrated service that can support ‘step-down’ transitions to our foster placements or ‘moving-on’ to our semi-independent/independent Transitional Care placements for young people aged 16 plus.

Who we work with

We work in partnership with local authorities throughout England and Wales, to provide the highest quality residential placements for children and young people aged 11 to 18.

For Placing Authorities from further afield our placements can offer interventions and a safe place for children and young people entrenched in difficult and risky situations closer to home; this could include networks that place them at risk of sexual exploitation, involvement with gangs, or unsafe family contact.

Working with our neighbouring local authorities we offer placements that are best placed to maintain children and young people in the region whilst meeting their multiple and complex needs.

We work with children and young people who have often experienced very damaging or traumatic childhoods and who present multiple and complex layers of difficulties including:

  • Attachment difficulties
  • Challenging Behaviour
  • Mental Health diagnoses
  • ADHD, Asperger’s, ASD
  • Emerging Personality Disorders
  • Sexually Inappropriate Behaviour or Sexually Harmful Behaviours
  • Self Harming behaviours
  • Vulnerable to Sexual Exploitation
  • Absconding Behaviour
  • Involvement in criminal or gang culture.

Education

Prospects registered independent special school is located in Wrexham and young people living in our residential homes can access a full education timetable delivered by experienced and qualified teaching staff.

We recognise that many young people coming to Prospects may have had very disrupted and unhappy experiences of learning, and as such each young person works with a key teacher to develop a highly personalised learning package.

We offer a rich and varied curriculum, developed to respond to the needs of young people.  We have a range of accredited learning programmes and offer English, Maths, Science, and Welsh subjects to GCSE level.

Clinical Support

Therapeutic / clinical support and input is undertaken by an experienced team of Clinical Psychologists in partnership with Changing Minds Limited, who are an independent organisation providing professional Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

Our partnership approach focuses on:

  • Psychological / clinical assessment
  • Consultancy to residential care teams to help process complex needs and feelings
  • Training and development
  • Management of more complex emotional / psychological needs
  • Ongoing case reviews and one-to-one support for young people where required.

Measurable outcomes and value for money

We understand that our customers expect to achieve positive outcomes for young people, and our central aim is for all of our services to deliver real value and measurable outcomes which will improve young people’s lives for the long-term.
